My Joseph Diary

We arrived in Southampton at about 5.30pm and headed straight for the box office and bought last minute tickets which was good as it was buy one get one free.  Then we went across the road to Cafe Sol, where we met Arvid for a drink.  We had a chat before he had to go to the theatre.

We went over to take our seat at about 7:25pm, the theatre was almost full, we had seats at the side about 6 rows from the front, but we managed to move nearer before it started.  Had a nose in the pit befoe the show and had a nice surprise, David Rose was back!! So siad a quick hello before sitting down to await the start, Kelvin, the MD came out and the music began.  Vivienne started with her usual amazing voice, singing us into the story.  As Arvid turned around we cheered and the show really got on its way.

Arvid has improved alot since he was last in the show, he was a fantastic boyish Joseph in the first half, he literally bounced through it.  His voice was amazing, powerful.   Close Every Door made people around me cry and myself too, it was emotional and powerful too.

The second half was great, Trevor wsa fab as Pharaoh and had the audience singing a clapping in the reprise.  Arvid played Prince Joseph well, dominating the stage and over powering the brothers.  When he shouted at the brothers to stop everyone jumped in their seats.

John Marques was great as Benjamin, he really made you feel sorry for him, and he seemed to really enjoy himself in Benjamins Calypso.

Another emotional part of the show was when Jacob came to Egypt and embraced Joseph as he starts to sing Any Dream Will do, quite a few people (me included) had a tear in thier eye at this point.  The mega mix brought the audience to thier feet and we all danced away, it was great when the brothers came into the audience, as most of them waved at us as they went by.

After the show we went to the stage door and chatted to a few of them before going ot the pub for a few drinks with Vivienne.  We all had a great night, look forward to seeing the show again soon.

My 100th show!!!

Carl, Donna and I arrived in Southampton about 6.45pm, we went to the Rat & Parrot for a quick drink before going to the theatre.  We sat in our front row seats and waited for the shoe to begin.  Just before it started there was an announcement "Tonight's part of Joseph will be played by Mr Lee Waterworth".  There were a few moans from the audience and I said 'oh no' (a bit too loud, oops) as I'd of liked to have seen Arvid again, but then I thought, well hang on I've not seen Lee as Jo before, so I sat back and waited in anticipation.

The curtain rose and the intro started.  Vivienne was again on top form, inviting us to join her for an hour or two, so she could tell us a tale of a dreamer.  The backdrop rose to reveal the cast, and as Lee turned round with a boyish grin on his face we knew we were in for a great night.  Lee sang Any Dream Will Do, wonderfully, and as the story unfoled you could tel he enjoyed playing the part.
