My Joseph Diary |
|||||||||||
The Regent Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent Saturday 24 November 2001 Carl, our friend and I arrived at the theatre about 4:30pm, we went on to a pub called the Unicorn which was a great place its where the Jesus Christ Superstar cast went when they were there. We met up with our friend Allie and her friends, and had drinks and a chat, then at 5pm we shot round to the stag door but as the cast had another show to do I didn't get chance to see many of them. So we decided to wait until later, in the end we went and sat with Jenette, John and Brian before they shot off to get ready. We took our seats near the back of the stalls and settled down for the show, I was really looking forward to seeing Graham as Joseph again. As the curtain rose after Chris's magnificent intro, the atmosphere was electric, Aura was amazing, though loud in places. My heart skipped as Graham turned at the end of the prologue, he looked stunning and so happy to be there, he really fitted in well. The cast seemed to be very comfortable with him, and as he sang 'Any Dream' for the first time that night we knew it was going to be a great show. And it was, Graham played Joseph with character and style, it was like he'd never left, Glen was great don't get me wrong, but Graham brings something different to the show. 'Close Every Door' had me in tears before the end of the first few lines, and the power in his voice at the end was mesmerising. Near the end of the first half the security lights at the back the stalls (where we were sitting) kept coming on and off so by the end of the second half most the cast knew where we were sitting due to us dancing every time they came on!! During the interval we chatted to Marcus the sound operator, he was great, it was interesting to see the sound board, not that I understood it!! The second half started without any security lights, someone had set light to the disabled persons lift. Anyway all was well and Aura opened the second half with 'Pharaoh's Story' which really shows us what her voice can do. Trevor was fantastic as Pharaoh as always, the audience went mad, he could of carried on all night and we wouldn't of minded, Graham looked great bopping along to it doing his old brother dance routine but fitting in well, and getting laughs as sings when everyone else had stopped. The mega mix at the end got people dancing in the aisles without a problem, so soon as Graham said the famous 'You can do what you like as long as you enjoy it' everyone got up. It was a fantastic show, shame it came to an end!! We dashed round to the stage door and managed to see most of the cast. Graham was one of the first out and he was happy to see us, had some pics taken with him and we chatted for awhile before he dashed off. We saw Trevor and had more pics taken, we also saw Russel and Karl, Jenette, Faye and Dan, I swear he thinks I was drunk as I fell off the pavement!! I was on water all night I promise!! I also got to meet a dear friend of mine Anneli Maiden, she was in the choir that night and it was lovely to finally meet her. We saw Chris Hatt but he was packing up his instruments to take to Malvern for Richard's 'A Little Bit of Show Business' for the next day. We didn't stay long as we had to get back to our friends house, but w all had a great night, we will be seeing the cast again in January in Chichester and I can't wait, till then bye for now. Tanith |
