My Joseph Diary
The Festival Theatre, Malvern
Saturday 11 August 2001

We got to Malvern about 4.30pm, just before the matinee started and went for a walk round town before going for a drink in the bar.  At  6pm Carl, myself and three friends went to the restaurant to have a meal, just as we sat down Carl said he'd seen someone I knew outside, when I looked I couldn't believe it, it was Stuart Tayler! So we invited him to join us for a drink and he did.  The rest of us ordered from the 'Joseph Family Menu', for example I had Josephs Technicolor Dreamcoat (Pizza, chips and peas), anyway we all enjoyed our themed meals.  It was great to catch up on news from Stuart, he had injured his knee so he decided to fly to the UK, he's enjoying being in Starlight Express in Germany, but was happy to have a short break.

The matinee finished and Jenette and Faye came out for a drink and something to eat and Stuart joined them.  As there was only an hour between shows we didn't see many of the others, we saw Brian and John dashed by.  Whilst our friends went in to watch the evening show Carl, myself and a friend went and got a table in the bar.  During the interval we met another friend and her sister, which was great.  Everyone seemed to be enjoying the show and couldn't wait to get back in to see the second half.

After the show our friends re-joined us and the cast started to as well.  Jenette and Stuart joined us for a drink.  We chatted to Russel, John, Trevor, Greg, Jamie, Faye and I introduced myself to Aura, whilst we chatted Carl went around and took some photos.  We had a great time, I was told that there will be a new coloured brochure out soon with photo's of the present cast.  Everyone seemed happy to see us, the tours going well, though I think they are looking forward to a week off (w/c 27 Aug).   It was a really relaxed atmosphere, it was lovely, I look forward to doing it again soon.  I hope to see the show next month in Bristol so I'll keep you posted.

Before I go I'd just like to thank Carol Mitchell, the Theatre Manager, for making us welcome and for giving me a poster :-) see you in November Carol!!

We arrived in Bristol at about 1pm and checked into our hotel, the Jury Hotel on the river.  We then went for a walk around Bristol, at 4pm we headed for the stage door, we said hi to Jenette and chatted to Faye before they had to be back on stage again as they had another two shows to do.  We then went back to the hotel.  We were watching the 8pm show so we headed for the stage door just after 7pm as we were meeting a friend of ours, Ian and his parents.  It was great to meet up with them and have a chat with some of the cast aswell.  I also met someone who visits this site too, so I'd just like to say hi to her and to ask her to email me sometime. Ian and his parents invited us to join them for a drink before the show and we were joined by the shows dresser for Bristol.  It was lovely to meet new people and to chat about the show.

At 7.50pm we made our way to our seats in the front row, just before the show started I managed to quickly say hi to Chris Hatt the MD.  Just before the show started there was an announcement saying that due to illness Trevor Jary will not be in the show, and the part of Pharaoh will be played by Kieron Harris.  What wasn't announced was that the part of Simeon would be played by Ellis Kerkhoven, Ellis was asked to do the show for the week, Trevor hopes to be back in the show Monday.

The show was fantastic, though I did miss Trevor's presence in the show.  Aura was amazing, for such a small person like me, she has an amazing voice, it was great see Ellis on stage again too, he was great.  A few of the costumes have been changed slightly since I last saw it, somethings had changed i.e. the way things were sang or acted out.  To pick out some of the great things from the show, Close Every Door was spine tingling, I was in tears by the end of it, Glen really looked upset to be in jail for something he hadn't done, and the power in his voice knocked me for six.  Another part of the show that really was amazing was Pharaoh's Story, Aura sang with tremendous power, and she rightly got a huge cheer.

The audience loved Pharaoh (Kieron) he was fantastic, he played Pharaoh in his own special way and had the women in the audience screaming by the end, and he can sure swing those hips.

Over all the show was great as always, eveyone seemed to have loads of energy considering they'd already done two shows before hand.  Jenette and Karl danced the apache dance in Those Canaan Days with so much enthusiasm it made quite a few people in the audience gasp and clap mid song. At the end of the show everyone was clapping along and singing though not alot of people got up to dance at the end, but we did of course!

After the show the theatre did a collection for the victims and their families who were affected by the American disaster, which we were happy to donate to. We went to the stage door after the show and managed to chat with and take photo's of most cast members, it was nice to see them all again and to finaly meet Chris Hatt and Ellis Kerkhoven who both were in the show two years ago yet I never met them!  We then joined some of the cast for drinks at a local pub.  We chatted to Jenette and Russel for a while then we chatted with Faye, Karl, Jamie, Lisa and Chris.  We also had a quick chat with Brian before we left.

We had a fantasic time and look forward to seeing the cast again in two weeks in Worthing.  I would just like to say thank you to the staff at the theatre who were very helpful as I wasn't feeling too well, but with their help and my friends Mum it didn't ruin the night.

News, a new competition and more coming to the site soon, will write another diary entry in two weeks.

13 October 2001

Carl and I arrived in Worthing in time to see the cast after the matinee, saw a few people, Trevor Jary was there and we had a chat, he's feeling better and glad to be back in the show.  Chatted with Lisa Quibell and Joanne Dockery, John Melvin and a few others, couldn't chat long as they all had to cehck out of their rooms.  We went to have a drink in a cafe and chatted to Jamie Read who happend to be passing, had a look round town and spotted Trevor shopping.  We then we went to pick up our friend Donna from the station, we managed to see most of the cast as they went back to the theatre for the 8pm show, Donna had
photos
taken with Trevor, before we went off to have a meal in the Pizza Hut.
After the evening show which we sadly couldn't see, we chatted to the cast and Jenette Humphris gave me the signed programme for my new competition.  The only people we didn't see were Trevor, Aura, Adam Johnson, Shaun Dolton and Kireon Harris.  The cast that we did see and talk to were well, Andrew Jeffers (Jacob) and Glen Drake (Joseph) will be leaving the show sometime next month, I'll keep you posted on that.  Apart from that no other news.  We had a lovely time in Worthing, they were all flying to Belfast the next day or so else we could of spent more time with them.  Will be going to Stoke in November so I'll write another diary then.
